The Center for Discovery
Giving a glow-up to a respected non-profit.
The Center for Discovery is an amazing organization in upstate New York that provides resources, care, and information to people with disabilities and their families. While accessible design is a baseline expectation of my design process, it was particularly important here to make sure the organization's revised site reflected its mission to improve health and enrich life for all.
Before any visual design work began, sitemapping and IA exercises were conducted with the stakeholder team to draft the content structure of the redesigned site; the previous site was not built using a CMS.
Outside of retaining their signature orange brand color, I was able to make recommendations to TCFD to increase the size of their brand toolkit. A key decision was to establish Lexend as their main typeface throughout the site; Lexend was designed specifically with screen legibility in mind. Additionally, I needed to ensure TCFD stayed as orange as possible without making text inaccessible based on WCAG contrast standards.
Additional assets created for TCFD include a range of geometric patterns that can easily combine with imagery from their large media library to quickly generate branded assets.
